Load drop of 1000 MW during earth hour in Green Delhi

Our view:
After I completed my engineering, I came to New Delhi in 1977 and fell in love
with the city immediately. It was immense, almost 30 miles in diameter ( today
around 100 miles including its satelite towns of NCR ) yet so green. The city had
not only a large green cover ( now considerably depleted) but had its people simply
in love with trees, plants even potted plants. Rich or poor, educated or not everyone
boasted of a spot of leafy wonder, even though it could be just a money plant in a bottle
No wonder the city has the largest green public transport sustem in the world based on
cng ( compressed natural gas) and a sweet spot for green causes.
Though I was away for 2 days celebrating my earth hour at a rural village without
electricity during the earth hour I came back to learn from the Newspapers on Monday
morning that the earth hour load drop was an amazing 1000 MW , though aided by a
coincidental thunderstorm during the period.
It was great to know that the city celebrated the earth hour in style .
Cheers
