BP Fails To Update Risk Management Plan

http://bit.ly/7XwAG

Three months after the TransOcean rig collapsed after explosion, BP has not yet updated its mandatory emergency plans as per the law. The MMS , the now renamed BOEM the regulatory authority for oil exploration requires company's to file its revised plans to tackle a crisis if "a change occurs which significantly reduces your response capabilities" and if "a significant change occurs in the worst case discharge scenario".

Though the regulator feels that both conditions are clearly applicable BP does not agree. BP responding to a Guardian enquiry felt the company need not file a revised plan, and said : "An incident does not trigger automatic re-submittal of an oil spill response plan… Once we have gathered the learnings from the Deepwater Horizon incident, we will update our plan and submit it."

This is another case of neglect by BP which has repeatedly got away with its anamolous interpretation of the law and its very risky mitigation techniques. It shows despite what has happened , the maverick oil company is unrepentant and insists on framing its own rules and just doesn't care about what the regulator says.
