India's agriculture minister Sharad Pawar is known to be the biggest wheeler dealer in the corruption ridden UPA Government headed by Manmohan Singh. So when he bats for not enforcing a ban on the toxic pesticide Endosulfan at the 5th COP Conference of the Stockholm Convention at Geneva, you could be suspicious of the reason. Endosulfan has been banned by 80 nations including the US, Canada, Japan and the European Union due to elaborate research data that shows that it causes heart disease, cerebral palsy and skeletal abnormalities besides infertility and risk of abortion. It has severe impact on the girl child many of whom were diagnosed with high levels of estrogen, which could lead to cervical and breast cancers.
Pawar has been closely related to the agriculture chemicals lobby since the last two decades. His only daughter Supriya Sadanand Sule is married to the son of the Managing Director of Union Carbide the company that was responsible for the horrendous Bhopal Gas Leak 25 years ago that killed and maimed over 200,000 people. The family has still close links with chemicals trade, the Indian Chemical Council and the minister has been strongly supportive of Monsanto the GM foods company now desperate to enter India and India's biggest producers of Endosulfan Excel Corp Care Ltd and Coromandel International Limited against other politicians primarily the environment minister Jairam Ramesh and Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan.
The Pawar clan is linked to many a scandal , but are not investigated by the Manmohan Singh Government
because they are a part of the ruling UPA coalition and have the required numbers in the Parliament to destabilize the UPA Government. Supriya Sule a Member of Parliament and Ajit Pawar the nephew of Sharad Pawar are reported to have financial links to 2G spectrum scam accused Shahid Usman Balwa and defacto owners of DB Realty accused in the multi billion dollar telecom payoffs. Recently corporate lobbyist Nira Radia said that the real estate firm DB Realty which is one of the key accused is widely known to belong to Pawar in Mumbai's real estate circle. With Pawar heading the cash rich Board of Cricket not long ago he was also accused of being the beneficiaries in the multi billion dollar IPL scam where investigation is moving at a snails pace. The Aviation school scandal where licences were handed over to commercial pilots by the DGCA without proper testing is also linked with a flying school reportedly owned by the minister's family in Baramati, Pawar's home constituency.
India's pro- Endosulfan stand at the Geneva meet is the personal agenda of the agriculture minister Sharad Pawar and the Prime Minister and his cabinet colleagues are silent spectators as always to this diabolic plot.
The refusal to accept the views of a global health initiative and keep the rural population safe from the effects of the deadly pesticide is a duty of the Indian Government and its failure is tragic.

The issue of endosulfan continues to plague entire Kerala; not Kasargod alone. Government level response to rehabilate the affected people remain matter of deliberation as yet. Central Govt on other hand is working out strategies that work in favour of the culprit-manufactures. What shame! Why a massive movement is taking place in Kerala where the communists are always supposed to be in the forefront on such difficult times! Why Pinarai is shying away from it? Why Achutan mama is not coming out rigorously? Do they have any hidden agenda; not to wage a war on the guilty corporate lobbies? Why the pollution control board is sitting cool on the issue? Answer lies with people to openly come out enmass forcing Government-interests to open their eyes fast and save whatever is left out now!
