Why Are India's Sports Bodies Not Answerable to the Citizen?

http://bit.ly/7XwAG

Why are sportsperson in India not being allowed to manage sport?  Even hold 25% of executive posts. Why must sports bodies not be accountable to the people? Why must there be no retirement age for officials of the sport bodies? The Union Cabinet at the behest of powerful satraps like Sharad Pawar, Praful Patel, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Farookh Abdullah and C.P.Joshi booted out the draft Sports Bill presented by Sports Minister Ajay Maken that attempted to bring in transparency and accountability in sports, before the ink has dried on the CWG scam.

As per Rajiv Shukla the spokesman for the powerful Board which controls Cricket India's most popular game , BCCI should not be made accountable to the Government because it is a private body and not funded by the Government. Hence BCCI should be allowed to form its own rules, maintain its  independence and not be subject to the RTI (Right To Information ) Act. In short the BCCI claims to be outside the regulatory jurisdiction just because it is privately funded. Can any other privately funded organisation in India claim immunity with such impunity?

Everybody knows that a murky election process in sports bodies across India allows them to manipulate funds and help politicians control sports in India. It is not only the UPA politicians but the opposition NDA counterparts  who are always in the fray a reason why a country of 1.2 billion people are producing so few top ranked sports men and women globally. Recently the Sharad Pawar (NCP) and the Vilasrao Deshmukh (Congress) group joined hands to keep reputed ex-cricketer and India captain Dilip Vengasarkar out  of office in the Presidential Election of the powerful Mumbai Cricket Association. Besides BCCI is a monopoly which has in past worked overtime to destroy competing sports bodies like the ICL who idea the BCCI promoted IPL pinched and created the much bandied Indian Premier League, the biggest idea in the Cricket world.

The Sports Minister Ajay Maken is on the dot.  Why Sports monopolies holding national assets are not answerable to the citizen of India? Most of  us believe that Tendulkar, Dhoni, and Bhutia, and thousands of sports persons are national assets just like gold and silver in the vaults of  the Reserve Bank Of India .  They are high value assets,  some even priceless, well beyond all the gold in a King's purse. So the fact that these private monopolies are being allowed to carry the brand name of India's Cricket Board and several top iconic players should make them answerable to the regulatory process, the RTI and to the citizens of India.
