Our friends at http://www.replantingtherainforests.org/ have brought momentum to the movement by a virtual campaign that is really worth joining. Extensive palm oil plantations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Java, Sumatra & Borneo have caused massive depletion in the orangutan population which has dropped by 10 to 14% since 2004.
One of the most shocking reasons of the Orangutan's dissapearance is human hunger ........... slaughter for meat. You may have noticed many of these displayed with impunity at the glitzy food and meat stalls at Singapore, Hongkong, Jakarta or Shanghai.
The locals and the Chinese eat these animals, as they devour almost all live animal and insect species that happen to roam their region. Wether it is the Japanese apettite for whales or the Canadian eagerness to hunt seals or the Chinese hunger for the Tiger and all other animal life including snakes or insects, this hunting of wild animals is barbaric and outdated and must be banned worldwide. With modern day arms and amunition & logistic support the hunter can kill large numbers with ease unlike in the olden days when it was a back breaking sport.
It is entirely different eat the livestock we rear for human consumption, and exterminate wildlife with sophisticated modern day weaponary. Like any genocide this is a crime & must stop. It will take a lot of political will but the world, irrespective of our food habits must unite
and fight this battle & stop this bio diversity change.
It would be nice if we all could be actively part of this great campaignFor more details on the subject visit http://tinyurl.com/d4ewcv
This is our opinion.
We could be wrong. Tell us if we are & why? We encourage diverse opininon even if it is from commercially interested groups opposed to our thinking
